Floquet engineering of electric polarization with two-frequency drive

Abstract Electric polarization is a geometric phenomenon in solids and has close relationship to the symmetry of system. Here we propose mechanism dynamically induce manipulate electric by using an external light field. Specifically, show that application bicircular lights controls rotational system can generate polarization. To this end, use Floquet theory study subjected two-frequency drive. We derive effective Hamiltonian with high-frequency expansions, for which computed Berry phase formula. demonstrate dynamical control one-dimensional Su–Shrieffer–Heeger chain, square lattice model, honeycomb model.
